When individuals arrive at Soromundi Commons, they soon realize it offers more than just a roof over their heads. It provides a safe haven, a supportive community and an opportunity to turn dreams into actions in tangible ways.

Soromundi Commons, a project of  YWCA Hartford Region and Chrysalis Center, Inc., includes 13 efficiency units and 35 affordable one-bedroom apartments to those struggling with physical or mental disabilities, substance abuse and domestic or sexual abuse; who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless; and who have incomes at or below 50 percent of the state median.

True to the word "Soromundi," meaning "Sisters of the World," Soromundi Commons joins individuals of diverse backgrounds together in a nurturing and supportive environment. Case managers provide counseling and healthcare guidance to helps women attain personal goals, good health and mastery of life skills.

Residents also have access to resources like the Community Learning Center, where they can find computers with Internet access and an employment specialist who can help develop the skills they need to secure employment with a living wage and gain economic empowerment.

After taking advantage of all Soromundi Commons has to offer, individuals find themselves becoming increasingly independent. They find jobs, overcome personal challenges and gain renewed hope for themselves and their families.
