About Teens as Successful Parents

Teens as Successful Parents is a program designed to ensure teen mothers graduate from high school and are ready for college and a career while learning to be good parents. The Teens as Successful Parents program will partner with schools to offer services to young parents in East Hartford and Manchester. Through carefully designed activities, teen parents strengthen their parenting skills while interacting with their children, following the lead of teachers who model responsive care-giving.

Services

• Weekly workshops that prepare young parents for financial security and post secondary education
• Weekly support groups to provide encouragement and guidance
• Case management to support with educational goal attainment, referrals and counseling
• Developmental screenings for children
• Supportive services available for fathers
• Home Visits

• Strengthen bonds to your child
• Gain skills to be a successful parent
• Successfully complete high school
• Develop goals for the future
• Prepare for college or other job training
• Gain important skills including career planning, financial capability while building self-esteem

Eligibility & Requirements
 

• Pregnant and parenting teens ages 14-20 years enrolled in high school or a GED program
• Attend weekly workshops and support groups
• Attend case management sessions
